Documentation varies by product and stone. Look for the named laboratory, report number and document type in the product details. Do not assume that every jewelry item or every accent stone comes with an individual laboratory report.
Read the stone information
Where supplied, review stone identity, shape, dimensions, weight and the grading information recorded by the laboratory. Ask whether a listed weight refers to one stone or the combined weight of multiple stones. Confirm any disclosed treatments and natural or laboratory-grown identification.
Verify a report
Use the issuing laboratory?s official report-check service when available. Compare the report number and recorded characteristics with the document supplied for your stone. For a GIA report, use the official GIA Report Check link below.
Reports and appraisals serve different purposes
A grading report describes a stone?s characteristics. It is different from an appraisal, which may address monetary value for a particular purpose. Ask which document is included and whether you need separate advice for insurance.
